Phoenix Kothari Footwear has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu Government for a ₹1,000 crore investment to establish a non-leather footwear manufacturing facility in Ramanathapuram, with the project expected to create around 10,000 jobs.

The investment marks a significant expansion of footwear manufacturing activity in southern Tamil Nadu and is expected to strengthen the state’s footwear production and supply-chain ecosystem.

Phoenix Kothari Footwear is a joint venture between Kothari Industrial Corporation and Taiwan-based Evervan Group, a contract manufacturer serving global footwear brands.

Executive Chairman & Managing Director of Kothari Industrial Corporation Limited, Jinnah Rafiq Ahmed, speaking about the investment, said he felt “privileged to have the opportunity to invest in this region” and to contribute to improving people’s lives, “especially women, through employment and opportunity.”

He also highlighted the company’s execution of its earlier investment commitments.

“Our Phoenix Kothari Crocs factory, completed within just one year of signing the MoU, is a proud example of our commitment and our determination to turn our investment promises into reality,” he said.

The developments come as Tamil Nadu seeks to strengthen its position as a major footwear manufacturing and sourcing destination. The state has an established footwear manufacturing base and a growing network of manufacturers, component suppliers, machinery companies, logistics providers and other industry participants.

The Ramanathapuram investment is expected to add further manufacturing capacity while creating employment opportunities in the region.

“We look forward to bringing more investments, creating employment and building world class institutions, making our small contribution towards Tamil Nadu’s ambitious vision of becoming a USD 1.5 trillion economy,” he added.

The ₹1,000 crore project, together with Phoenix Kothari’s existing manufacturing operations, adds to Tamil Nadu’s growing footwear ecosystem and its efforts to attract investment, expand manufacturing capacity and generate employment across the state.
