Catalonia strengthens leather supply chain with EUR 18 Million raw hide processing investment

Catalonia is taking a significant step to reinforce its leather manufacturing sector with the launch of a new EUR 18 million raw hide processing facility that is expected to improve supply chain efficiency, product traceability and environmental performance. The project, led by Novicuir, highlights the region's continued investment in strengthening its leather industry infrastructure.

Once operational, the plant will introduce enhanced quality control measures, improve processing efficiency and provide full traceability from the origin of each hide through to the tanning stage. The project also places a strong emphasis on sustainability by reducing emissions and optimizing the use of resources throughout the processing cycle.

The investment is backed by a consortium comprising Palomeras y Gambus, Rémy Carriat and Curtidos Badia, with strategic support from a major shared customer. The Catalan Government's Department for Business and Labour has also contributed EUR 300,000 to support the development.

The facility is expected to create around 20 new jobs while further strengthening the Conca d'Òdena leather manufacturing district, located between Catalonia's principal tanning hubs. According to ACCIÓ, Catalan Minister for Business and Labour Miquel Sàmper said the investment will reinforce the region's position as a strategic center for the leather industry, while advancing circular economy practices and generating high-quality employment.
