Columbia Sportswear Company, a global leader in active lifestyle apparel, footwear, accessories, and equipment, has appointed industry veteran Joe Vernachio as the new President of its SOREL brand, effective June 22, 2026. The executive appointment represents a strategic return to the Columbia Sportswear corporate family for Vernachio, who previously led the company's Mountain Hardwear brand for several years before transitioning into senior executive leadership within the broader footwear market.

Vernachio transitions to SOREL from sustainable footwear label Allbirds, where he most recently served as Chief Operating Officer and subsequently as Chief Executive Officer. His extensive professional pedigree within the outdoor, athletic, and fashion sectors features high-profile leadership roles across major global brands, including serving as Global Vice President for Product and Operations at The North Face, alongside key tenures at Nike, Spyder, Roots, Calvin Klein, and Patagonia.

Tim Boyle, CEO and Chair of the Board of Columbia Sportswear Company, stated that the organization is excited to welcome Vernachio back to the corporate structure, describing him as a terrific leader capable of building upon the existing talent and momentum currently in place at SOREL.

Founded in 1962, SOREL has established a distinct market niche as a leader in functional and lifestyle footwear engineered to transition seamlessly between rugged outdoor environments and metropolitan consumer markets. Under Vernachio's upcoming tenure, the parent organization intends to leverage his background in commercial scaling, product development, and brand storytelling to accelerate international market penetration and drive meaningful brand expansion.

Craig Zanon, Executive Vice President of Europe Direct, Asia Direct, and Emerging Brands, noted that Vernachio's collaborative, consumer-focused leadership style and technical expertise will be vital to fueling scalable growth for the footwear subsidiary. The operational transition underscores parent company Columbia Sportswear's ongoing portfolio management across its foundational brands, which include Columbia, Mountain Hardwear, SOREL, and prAna. Founded in 1938 and headquartered in Portland, Oregon, the multi-brand corporation currently maintains a global distribution footprint spanning approximately 90 countries.
