UP Government plans new policy to double leather and footwear exports

The Uttar Pradesh government is working on a new plan to help the state export more leather and footwear to other countries. This new policy is necessary because global trade is changing quickly. According to a senior official of the state government, the goal is to make the state's leather industry twice as big as it is now within the next five years. To do this, the government will offer financial help, better technology, and cash rewards for businesses that export their goods.

The plan will focus on boosting the industry in cities like Kanpur, Agra, Unnao, and Noida by building special business zones and leather parks. The state wants to sell more products right here in India while also reaching customers in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, the United States, and Europe.

This state policy is being designed to work perfectly with the Indian government's 2025-26 budget. By matching the national plan, local businesses can get extra help with designing products and making parts for shoes that aren't made of leather. The MSME department is leading this effort and is using a similar, successful plan from Tamil Nadu as a guide.

Currently, the leather industry in Uttar Pradesh is worth about 20,000 crore rupees. This push is part of a much larger national goal to grow India's leather and footwear exports from the current 5 billion dollars to 50 billion dollars by the year 2030.
