The American national non-profit organization Shoes That Fit has received a donation of more than 776,000 dollars from Stater Bros. Charities, marking the largest single contribution in the charity’s thirty-year history. The record-breaking sum was raised during a intensive twelve-day in-store fundraising campaign across all Stater Bros. Markets locations. A formal cheque presentation was held at the supermarket chain's Redlands and Lugonia branch in California, which was recognized as the top-performing store during the drive. The funds are earmarked to provide brand-new athletic trainers to thousands of school pupils across Southern California ahead of the upcoming autumn term.
The initiative addresses a persistent but frequently overlooked obstacle to primary education. Based in Claremont, California, Shoes That Fit focuses on mitigating one of the most visible signs of childhood poverty by supplying proper athletic footwear to children in need. According to organizers, proper footwear is directly linked to higher school attendance, improved classroom performance, and increased physical activity. Last year, the organization distributed new trainers to more than 218,000 children across all fifty American states. This historic windfall significantly scales up their capacity in their home region, building upon a corporate partnership with the supermarket group that began in 2019.
The success of the brief campaign relied heavily on point-of-sale engagement, with supermarket cashiers and store staff driving the fundraising momentum among everyday shoppers. Executive leadership from both organizations noted that public response quickly surpassed internal forecasts once customers understood how directly the funds would impact local families. Nancy Negrette, Chairman and President of Stater Bros. Charities, observed that comfortable and well-fitting footwear functions as a fundamental driver of a child’s self-worth and confidence rather than a mere fashion preference, which motivated shoppers to back the campaign.
This massive injection of capital aligns with the broader philanthropic mission of Stater Bros. Charities, the grant-making arm of the Southern California grocery chain. Operating nearly 170 stores and employing roughly 18,000 staff across the region, the company focuses its charitable investments on local education, hunger relief, and children's well-being. Since its inception in 2008, the retailer's charitable trust has invested more than 54 million dollars into community causes. For Shoes That Fit, which was previously named a California Non-profit of the Year, the record contribution ensures that hundreds of disadvantaged students will return to the classroom this autumn with the physical resources necessary to fully participate in school life.
