Lagos Leather Fair 2026 closes with focus on AI, innovation and growth

Lagos Leather Fair (LLF) 2026 concluded on June 28 after a successful two-day event that reinforced Africa's growing influence in the global leather industry. Bringing together artisans, manufacturers, suppliers, buyers, policymakers and industry leaders, the fair highlighted the continent's commitment to innovation, sustainability and business growth.

The event combined exhibitions, networking opportunities, educational sessions and product showcases, providing a platform for African leather businesses to strengthen commercial partnerships and explore new export opportunities.

One of the key highlights was a fireside discussion titled "From Local Roots to Global Reach: Building a Scalable Leather Brand," featuring industry experts Abubakar Sanusi, Niyi Abiola, Tejumola Maurice-Diya and Isi Braimoh, moderated by Olawoyin Samuel. The panel explored strategies for overcoming supply chain challenges, achieving international quality standards and leveraging cross-border trade agreements to position African leather brands in global premium markets.

Technology and innovation also took center stage during a masterclass led by Elijah Moses on "The Future of Leather Working: AI-Assisted Techniques and Innovations." The session examined how artificial intelligence, digital pattern-making and smart manufacturing technologies are transforming leather production by improving efficiency, reducing material waste and supporting more sustainable manufacturing practices.

Throughout the fair, visitors attended live demonstrations at the Maker's Bench and LLF Atelier, where skilled craftspeople showcased both traditional and modern leatherworking techniques, illustrating the craftsmanship involved in producing high-quality leather goods.

The event concluded with the prestigious LLF Awards, recognizing individuals and businesses for excellence in design, craftsmanship and entrepreneurship across the African leather sector.
