Kanpur hosts 4-day leather Mela showcasing exquisite leather goods

The Central Region of the Council for Leather Export (CLE) successfully hosted a four-day Leather Mela at Moti Jheel Ground, Kanpur, from October 3 to 6. The event featured a beautiful display of leather goods and the latest shoe collections, attracting significant attention from local and industry participants alike. Ramesh Awasthi, Member of Parliament, inaugurated the event, touring the stalls and interacting with participating companies.

Prominent figures attending the inauguration included Mukhtarul Amin, former CLE chairman and chairman of Super House Group, Rajendra K Jalan, CLE chairman, and Asad Iraqi, CLE official. Speaking at the event, Iraqi attributed the fair's success to the overwhelming response from previous editions, which spurred the organization of its 5th edition. He stated that the fair aims to provide local citizens access to export-quality leather products made in Kanpur.

Mukhtarul Amin, while addressing the audience, reiterated Kanpur's status as a global leader in the manufacturing and export of leather goods. He highlighted the city’s significant contribution to India's leather export sector, with Kanpur’s leather industry achieving an export turnover of Rs. 7,000 crore and a domestic turnover exceeding Rs. 18,000 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal year. India's overall leather exports for the same period stood at Rs. 38,833.29 crore, further underscoring the industry's critical role in the nation's export performance.

As many as 34 leading manufacturers, including Allen Cooper, Modriba, Avetos Mordant, Pair One, Cabrini, Lucky Tony, Macuw, Black Horn, Midas, and Curero Bolsa participated in the fair. Among the products showcased on the occasion were footwear, bags, wallets, jackets, belts, ladies' sandals, shoes, and other leather goods.
