The Indian government is intensifying its focus on data-driven governance within its manufacturing sector to secure its position in highly competitive global supply chains. As countries increasingly rely on analytical frameworks to guide industrial strategy, establishing robust economic data streams has become critical for long-term planning. In line with this strategy, India's Ministry of Textiles has formally partnered with the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations to conduct evidence-based policy research. The bilateral agreement marks a coordinated effort to inject technical expertise into the policy frameworks governing one of the country's most critical industrial segments.
The agreement was finalised during an official signing ceremony held at GPOA 3, Netaji Nagar, in New Delhi. Akhilesh Kumar, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Textiles, and Shekhar Aiyar, Director and Chief Executive of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of their respective organisations. This formal signing establishes an operational bridge between the federal bureaucracy and the economic think tank, shifting the approach toward policy formulation from traditional methods to a framework backed by empirical evidence.
Under the terms of the partnership, the government will leverage the specialized technical expertise of the research council to overhaul how information is gathered and utilised within the domestic market. The primary objectives of the collaboration focus on providing sustained research support, strengthening existing textile data infrastructure, and executing data-driven analysis. These analytical outputs are intended to serve as the structural foundation for upcoming policy formulation, ensuring that regulatory adjustments and state incentives are aligned with verified market realities.
The emphasis on this specific sector reflects its importance to the macroeconomic health of the Indian state. The textile and apparel sector remains a vital contributor to the nation's overall manufacturing output, international exports, and domestic employment figures. The partnership underscores a broader government commitment to engineering robust industrial policies that can withstand global market volatility and foster domestic industrial expansion.
