The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) and the Leather Export Promotion Council have prepared a "Vision Document-2030" for the leather and footwear industry, outlining a comprehensive roadmap for the sector’s growth. The document, which details global benchmarking, policy landscapes, and a multi-pronged action agenda, was released by Rajeev Singh Thakur, IAS, Additional Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), during the National Export Excellence Awards in New Delhi on January 10.

According to CLE Vice Chairman Rajendra K. Jalan, the vision aims to scale the industry’s total turnover to approximately $47.1 billion by 2030, a significant increase from the current $17.26 billion. This target includes both domestic and export markets; currently, the industry’s $17.26 billion size comprises a $12 billion domestic turnover and $5.26 billion in exports.

The document specifically focuses on increasing production and exports over the next five to seven years through strategic market analysis and infrastructure development. During the same New Delhi event, the CLE presented Export Awards for the 2022-23 period to 64 recipients across various categories, including export performance, brand creation, and women entrepreneurs.
