Carbitex launches performance footwear education hub

The new initiative functions as an educational hub and open resource dedicated to advancing the industry's understanding and application of footwear flex, which the company identifies as one of the market's least engineered performance properties.

The hub integrates developments in biomechanics, materials science, and Advanced Footwear Technology (AFT) to establish a common language and scientific foundation for the footwear industry regarding how footwear flexes and impacts performance.
According to the company, while the global footwear market has seen decades of significant innovation focused on cushioning, materials, and stability, flex has remained a fundamentally underutilized aspect of footwear engineering. This is largely due to the complex, dynamic nature of the human foot, which requires a highly deliberate, research-driven approach across varied movements and activities.
Junus Khan, founder and president of Carbitex, stated that progress in the industry occurs when manufacturers gain the technical capacity to eliminate traditional design compromises. Khan noted that unlike cushioning, traction, and stability, flexibility has historically remained difficult to precisely define and engineer due to its direct interaction with complex human biomechanics. He added that the Center for Better Flex represents an industry-wide effort to elevate awareness of this property, extending beyond Carbitex’s proprietary commercial interests to improve movement for a demographic spectrum ranging from elite athletes to individuals with physical impairments.
The core offerings of the Center for Better Flex focus on several operational areas for the footwear sector. It introduces a foundational framework providing technical explanations of flex, foot movement, and the specific ways footwear design influences biomechanical outcomes. Additionally, the platform establishes a shared vocabulary and standardized definitions to enable more precise technical communication between brand product teams, engineers, and designers.
The hub also serves as an expanding repository of biomechanical and materials science research intended to support data-driven product development decisions. Beyond business-to-business applications, the resource features consumer-facing educational content to clarify how footwear moves with the wearer, alongside an "Industry Voices" section that compiles insights from independent biomechanists, designers, and brands.
