Brazilian Tannery Viposa Earns Green Building Certification

Brazilian leather manufacturer Viposa, a member of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), has become the first industrial facility in Brazil to receive LEED Platinum certification, the highest level of the globally recognized green building rating system.

Located in Nova Andradina, Mato Grosso do Sul, the tannery also achieved the highest LEED Operations and Maintenance (O+M) score ever recorded for an industrial building in Brazil. The LEED certification evaluates buildings on energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, waste management, and innovation.

Viposa began planning the sustainable facility in 2020, incorporating features such as natural lighting and ventilation, electric vehicle infrastructure, and resource-efficient technologies to reduce environmental impact throughout daily operations.

The CICB praised the achievement, saying it reflects the Brazilian leather industry's continued commitment to innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainability.

Viposa said the certification demonstrates that more than 70 years of leather manufacturing experience can be successfully combined with a forward-looking approach focused on responsible growth.

The company added that the recognition strengthens its commitment to customers, employees, and society while reinforcing its position as a sustainable and trusted partner in the global leather industry.
