Bangladesh's leather and leather products sector demonstrated robust upward momentum during the first ten months of the current fiscal year, reinforcing its position as a key driver of the nation's manufacturing export economy.
According to the latest data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), the sector generated $988.06 million in export earnings during the July–April period of financial year 2025–26. This performance marks a notable 5.95% increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, reflecting sustained global market demand for Bangladeshi hides and finished leather goods despite ongoing shifts in global retail supply chains.
The steady expansion of the leather sector has also solidified its overall macroeconomic footprint within the South Asian manufacturing hub. During the July–April window, the sector contributed 2.51% to Bangladesh's total national merchandise exports, which cumulative figures reached $39.4 billion.
Industrial stakeholders view these figures as a strong indicator of structural resilience, showing that the leather industry continues to secure vital international procurement contracts and maintain a steady growth trajectory amid competitive global trade headwinds.
